Our vision

Our principal aim is to reduce the quantity of fruit, which can no longer be used and is consequently thrown away. Each year 572 million tons of fruit are discarded and destroyed due to the decaying process or are simply no more attractive to the consumer’s eye. This figure is extremely high and we would like to diminish it as much as possible.

The use of Permafruit would result in saving money due to dumping less fruit and vegetables.

Permafruit

Permafruit is a pad used to impede the ripening of fruit and vegetables. This product may be applied in transport, shops, markets, restaurants, hotels and most certainly in each household. The pad starts absorbing the gas ethylene, which is released by fruit causing fruit decay. By absorbing these gases we achieve a considerably prolonged durability and freshness by preventing the decaying process. The pad prevents excessive ripening without fruit being contaminated by preservatives since it only eliminates gases nearby by getting into no direct contact with fruit.

Pad contents are absolutely harmless to both, users as well as their environment. Permafruit is highly applicable also to prevent the spawning of moulds (but not so well in damaged fruit and vegetable).

One pad remains active for at least 1 month (providing we take 1 kg of fruit). Its applicability depends on the sort of fruit, since each kind releases a different amount of gas. Our calculations have shown that if everyone of us used this product permanently the quantity of discarded fruit and vegetables could be reduced by up to 60%.

About us

This product was created by Tilen and Jure while still being in primary school, when they were awarded the gold recognition at the Young Slovenia Researchers’ competition. Public interest was proved with our entry in the competition My enterprise. We managed to win on the state level. This enabled us the entry in the European JA-YE competition, which took place in Berlin. We succeeded in getting into the final first prize selection.

The year 2016 brought us into the finals of the Rector’s top innovation prize. The same year we were qualified among the finalists for the Global Innovation Turin camp.
